Envirogen’s Reverse Osmosis UK-manufactured plants are used to produce high-quality demineralised water, especially where the client looks to minimise the use of chemicals which are the regenerants associated with the more conventional demineralised ion exchange process (see Demineralisation). Reverse osmosis is a membrane technology process that uses pressure to force a fluid through a membrane. It is the opposite of the natural osmosis function, in which a substance moves across a membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. The process separates water from dissolved ions and compounds to form a clean stream (permeate) and a waste stream (reject). The RO process can reject up to 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, and pyrogens and up to 99% of dissolved ions and organic compounds.
RO Plant is used extensively in the food and beverage industry (especially the brewing industry), pharmaceutical and the electronics industries. Envirogen water technologies uses a programme for studying the water chemistry and then select the most suitable membrane configuration and in order to provide a plant which gives a high recovery rate. Further help is provided to the client to make use of, often by further treatment, of the reject water. The standard Derwent range of RO units utilises the most modern membrane technology and consists of a modular design comprising of:
RO, NF and EDI system designed and installed by Envirogen.
- Skid-mounted stainless steel base
- Spiral-wound membranes in high-pressure GRP vessels
- Multi-stage high-pressure stainless steel feed pump
- PLC Control panel
- Pressure and flow gauges for feed, reject and permeate
- Conductivity instrumentation
RO plants are normally provided with additional pre-treatment forms – typically with softening to prevent scaling of the membrane, carbon filtration to remove chlorine and cartridge filters to remove particulate solids.
In addition to the standard reverse osmosis skids detailed above, Envirogen also supply a range of full stainless treatment skids that utilize hygienic connections throughout their design.
We supply bespoke plants to any size or complexity. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
